What Is The Importance Of pH5.5 In Baby-care Products

What Is The Importance Of pH5.5 In Baby-care Products

There are so many changes that take place once you become a parent. For me, one of the biggest changes that happened was that I started reading what’s in the product before buying it. For the first time, things can be overwhelming as we want to give and do the best for our little one.

Reading labels or ingredients of the product felt like such a waste of time before and then pregnancy happened. Everything that I bought for my little one was well researched by me on the internet. The market is swamped with a number of baby products that come in different and attractive shapes, sizes, and colors. I never buy any product without reading labels any more. I make sure that products that will be used on my baby’s skin are mild.

It is good if we understand a bit about common toxins generally used in skincare products. While choosing the right product for my little one, there is one thing that I always pay attention to is that it should have PH5.5 in it.

What Is pH5.5?

pH is a scale used to specify how acidic or basic a water-based solution is. The pH is measured on the pH bar, 0 indicating acidic and 14 indicating alkaline. The pH of water is 7 which is neutral. Normal, healthy skin has a pH of 5.5 which is slightly acidic and Sebamed products also have a pH of 5.5.

Our skin is naturally made to combat infection and environmental stresses, its ability to do so is affected by its pH level. The pH level of the skin states how acidic or alkaline it is. Our baby’s skin is not only softer but also thinner than adult skin. Products that we apply to their skin can easily pass through the permeable surface.

Staying away from chemicals and the use of gentle formulas in baby care products are a few basic rules.  All Sebamed products maintain a pH value of 5.5. Babies are born with a skin pH value of 7. The acid mantle which protects the baby’s delicate skin takes up to 3 months to develop, the pH of the skin then becomes 5.5. pH neutral products are not a friend of your baby’s skin.

Few Tips on how to choose the best baby care product

  • Ask your pediatrician whenever you are in doubt. Being a new and a first-time parent I understand the worries a parent goes through before picking anything new for their little one. It is good to take advice from your pediatrician if you are not sure about something.
  • Read Labels and understand the basic common toxins so, next time when you go to buy a product you would know what to stay away from. I have used Sebamed products for my little one and happy with the result. These products are the safest with only 0.0003% cases of irritation which ensures our baby’s skin remains truly pHenomenal and has the best protection from Day 1.
  • Say no to harmful chemicals and make sure the products are mild. The difference between Sebamed and other brands is that they ensure that your baby’s skin remains the way it is meant to be. Sebamed products have been developed by dermatologists to meet your skin’s specific needs.

Hope this has helped you understand pH a bit better. Don’t forget to let me know your thoughts on how to choose the best baby-care products in the comment section.
