My First Girls Trip With My Toddler: What I Learned, Packed & Loved

There’s something incredibly special about girls’ trips: the laughter, endless conversations, shared memories, and the freedom of stepping away from routine for a little while. Years ago, during a phase of life that now feels both distant and beautiful, I went on my very first girls’ trip with my toddler.

At that time, motherhood was still teaching me new lessons every single day, and the idea of traveling without my husband while managing a toddler alone felt both exciting and terrifying. But somewhere between packed bags, toddler tantrums, road trip snacks, and heartfelt conversations, the trip turned into one of the most memorable experiences of my motherhood journey.

What I thought would simply be a fun getaway became a beautiful reminder of love, friendship, and the tiny moments with children that stay in our hearts forever.

Rishikesh, It Was!

We packed our bags and headed to Rishikesh for our much-awaited girls’ getaway.

I had traveled before, but this was the first time I was traveling with my toddler without my husband beside me. Usually, parenting in public becomes easier when your partner is there to share the chaos, distractions, luggage, tantrums, and occasional public embarrassment.

This time, it was just me. I had mixed emotions throughout the journey. On one hand, I was incredibly excited about spending quality time with my closest friends. On the other hand, I was nervous about handling toddler tantrums alone during travel.

As every mom knows, vacations with toddlers are not exactly vacations. But despite all my worries, the trip turned out to be one of the most refreshing experiences I had in a long time.

Traveling With A Toddler Is An Adventure Of Its Own

Of course, there were tantrums.

My little one had her moments during the trip, especially when she got tired or hungry. But thankfully, she was also easy to comfort. A little cuddle, some snacks, or simply being around familiar faces helped calm her down quickly.

Looking back now, I am genuinely glad I took her along instead of leaving her behind. Yes, traveling with a toddler can be exhausting, but it can also create the most beautiful memories.

Things I Forgot To Pack (And Regretted Immediately)

Mom-brain is real.

Despite making mental lists for days, I somehow forgot to pack one of the most important things, the baby carrier. I regretted it almost instantly.

On the second day of our trip, we visited a crowded place, and I had to carry my little one throughout the walk. At first, it felt manageable, but after twenty or thirty minutes, my shoulders and back were screaming for help. By then, I was exhausted, sweaty, hungry, and silently questioning all my life choices.

We finally found a decent place to sit and eat, and the moment I placed her on the chair beside me, I let out a tiny cry of relief and pain together. I wiped the sweat from my face, gave her water, and looked around for a place to wash my hands. Then something happened that melted my heart completely.

The Moment I Will Never Forget

To my utter surprise, my little one stood up on the chair, gently touched my face, and blew me a kiss. Then she picked up her tiny water sipper and offered it to me as if she understood exactly how tired I was.

I smiled at her, completely emotional already. But she wasn’t done yet.

She wrapped her tiny arms around me, sat on my lap, and made a heart shape with her fingers, something she had learned only recently. Maybe it was just a random toddler moment; I might have been being overly emotional, or maybe motherhood changes your heart forever.

But in that moment, I felt so deeply loved. Her twinkling eyes looked straight into mine as if she was trying to say:
“Mumma, I love you.”

Nothing in the world compares to that feeling. Motherhood may be exhausting, chaotic, and overwhelming at times, but moments like these make everything worth it.

Things That Would Have Made My Trip Easier

After this trip, I realized how important a few travel essentials can be when traveling with toddlers. A few things that would have made the journey much smoother for me:

A few other things would have made the trip so much easier for me: a travel snack organizer for those sudden hunger meltdowns, a wet wipes pouch always within reach, an extra pair of toddler clothes tucked inside my handbag, and a few portable toys to keep my little one distracted during long waits and travel time.

Motherhood teaches you that sometimes it’s not the big plans but the smallest things that save the day.

Why Every Mom Deserves A Girls’ Trip

Somewhere between motherhood, responsibilities, work, and endless routines, women often forget themselves.

This trip reminded me that moms deserve breaks, too. We deserve laughter and friendships. We deserve memories beyond grocery lists and bedtime routines. Taking my toddler along made the experience even more special.

Because one day she will grow up, and maybe she won’t remember this trip at all, but I will. I will always remember her tiny hands touching my tired face and offering me her little water bottle with so much love. These are the moments I want to hold onto forever.

  3. Awww.. This is so sweet. This clearly shows that babies care for their mothers. And the best part is these tiny things make mums super proud and super senti as well 🙂

  4. That’s such a sweet gesture! Babies know when we need their love. My 10-month-old has recently started giving me kisses when I ask, but it’s when I don’t ask and she still kisses me… that’s the best! <3

  6. Oh thats so great that your little baby also enjoying with her mom on a trip. Thats really a golden memories for you. She is such a cute baby and she knows very wel that when mom wants a kiss and a hug. Cute moments

  7. Our kids are so attentive..sometimes they do the sweetest things that melt our hearts. I don’t allow my 16mo to have too much sweet stuff. The other day my MIL gave him a slice of sponge cake and guess what…he fed half of it to me. Even though I kept telling him that he rarely gets a treat like this, he should enjoy it himself..he kept insisting that I should share with him. I was so touched I literally started crying!

  8. Awww… that’s so cute! the part where your LO offers you the sipper… adorable! It’s fun traveling with kids. Yes the pace is slower and certain preps need to be made, but kids are more resilient than we assume and they do realise they are in a new environment and enjoy with the parents. It’s such good time to bond as a family! 🙂

  9. I love that you found a way to include your little one in your trip with your friends. Just because we had children, doesn’t mean we have to leave old friendships behind!

  10. What a beautiful moment and one that you will never forget. They have a sense of when you need a little hug or loving moment and it makes it all worth it. Thank you for sharing!

  11. That’s so sweet. I love how sweet little ones are and it just makes your day. I’ll be grocery shopping with my 2 year old in the cart seat, and he’ll just randomly lean over and give me a big hug. I love it!
