True Liars by Isha Inamdar Book Review: A Desi Romance with Secrets and Twists

Book: True Liars
Author: Isha Inamdar
Genre: Romance Fiction

Dear readers, as someone who has always enjoyed romance novels and happily watches cheesy Bollywood love stories, I am naturally drawn to books that promise a heartfelt romantic journey. When author Isha Inamdar sent me a copy of True Liars, the beautiful cover and intriguing title immediately caught my attention.

Thank you, Isha Inamdar, for sharing your debut novel with me. True Liars is a full-on desi romance packed with emotions, family drama, secrets, and relationships. Among all the characters, Rudra quickly became my favorite. If you enjoy brooding, emotionally complex heroes, there’s a good chance you’ll find yourself rooting for him too.

Anjana, fondly known as NJ, is another character many readers can relate to. Coming from a small town herself, she struggles to find her place in the fast-paced city of Mumbai. Her journey of chasing dreams while navigating relationships feels authentic and relatable.

Story Synopsis

Anjana (NJ) moves to Mumbai, the city of dreams, with aspirations of becoming a successful DJ. She shares her life with her friend Harsh and his boyfriend Sam. When family circumstances call Harsh back to Rajasthan for his sister’s wedding, he convinces NJ to accompany him and pose as his girlfriend to avoid awkward matchmaking attempts from his family.

The story takes an interesting turn in Rajasthan, where NJ meets Rudra, Harsh’s elder brother. Quiet, caring, emotionally guarded, and carrying the weight of a broken heart, Rudra gradually becomes an important part of NJ’s life.

As wedding celebrations unfold, hidden truths, family expectations, and carefully guarded secrets begin to surface. What starts as a harmless arrangement soon becomes a tangled web of emotions and misunderstandings.

The mystery deepens when NJ suddenly disappears after returning to Mumbai. Rumors spread, questions arise, and the story takes an unexpected turn. What really happened to her? And why do people believe she might be dead?

About the Author

Isha Inamdar is a financial services professional who previously worked in art direction within the film and advertising industry. Her creative background and love for storytelling are reflected in her writing. An avid reader since childhood, she considers seeing her name on a book cover a dream come true. True Liars is her debut full-length novel.

My Review

True Liars offers a refreshing blend of romance, family drama, and mystery. The story begins on a promising note, drawing readers into NJ’s world and introducing interesting characters. The Rajasthan backdrop adds charm and warmth to the narrative, while Rudra stands out as one of the strongest characters in the book.

However, while the first half of the novel moves at a comfortable pace, the story loses some momentum midway. Certain plot developments feel rushed, and the emotional depth that initially engages the reader isn’t consistently maintained throughout the book. Although the climax manages to bring the story together, I felt the narrative could have been tighter and more impactful.

Overall, True Liars is a light, entertaining read for fans of contemporary Indian romance, especially those who enjoy stories centered around family dynamics, relationships, and emotional conflicts.

My Rating: 3/5 ⭐⭐⭐

If you’re looking for a quick romantic read with a touch of mystery and plenty of desi charm, True Liars may be worth adding to your reading list.

  2. The book seems to be very interesting and intriguing. It has been a long time since I got my hands on a good book. I do feel like grabbing my copy now.

  3. I do not read romantic fiction. I didn’t read during my college days too , don’t know why it never attracted me. I was more of a reader of thrillers and court room drama novels. However yourcreview has got me intrigued to try “True Liars”

  4. I am a fan of romantic novels too but the busy days with my kiddo has created a distance between me and books but still will try to cover up some with a fresh start with this book.
