How I Struggled And Won With Coronavirus During Pregnancy (Part 1)

Dear readers, hope you all staying safe and praying for the ones facing difficult times. My family was struck with the coronavirus (Covid19) last month. It was a nightmare of declining physical as well as mental health. I understand saying won would be too early however, so far the reports have come negative for all of us. Not only that we all are back to our routine work as well as life and I am back at my favorite space, blogging.

The two-part post is about hope, a ray of happiness, and a story that ends on a happy note. We call can do with every bit of positivity in our life ๐Ÿ™‚

18th April 2021:

This was the first day, I had a mild fever. Things were about to get very serious and I was not prepared for what followed. I haven’t stepped out of my house since February not even for a usual morning or evening walk and I still caught Covid. We have been in a bio bubble since I got to know about the pregnancy.

I am pregnant which means I am always over the top aware of my safety and follow the norms of hygiene to the T. Never took off my mask even when I went for the usual monthly medical check-up which is why covid was the last thing on my mind. I started to develop a cold and cough and that rang a bell for all of us.

Can everyone afford the luxury of being quarantined and saved from being affected by Coronavirus?

From my personal experience, “getting quarantined” is a luxury that not everyone can afford. We stay in a high-rise apartment with 4 members of the family including our five-year-old daughter. It was not easy especially when I was going through a bit of a complication in my first trimester (more on it later) and wasn’t allowed to stand for a long time. however, by the time we realized that what it is, the symptoms were visible to the other members of my family too.

Out of all, I was the one who was most vulnerable given the pregnancy. The effects of the virus on me were worse and it scared the hell out of all of us. When you are not well it is advised to stay away from screens and news which I religiously followed but when tragedies start to hit real close to your home, one doesn’t need news channels for that. Following the week of my illness, I started getting news from my absolutely dear ones who were losing their family members to this virus and other medical reasons and it broke me from inside.

The next week since I got the first fever, broke me to the core and I started to feel the effect of this virus on me. I couldn’t even sit on my own.

When the symptoms of coronavirus were visible on my daughter…

How real and horrifying this can get can be felt when you see your little one get a fever. The night was a nightmare because her fever didn’t go down and she was uncomfortable due to a high fever. My composure gave up and I cried my eyes out. I blamed myself, well, it gets difficult to think straight when it comes to the discomfort of your child. The next morning we called up the pediatrician but by then her fever subsided. He was so patient with me, I was that mom who was worried for her baby and rambled on forever.

I am absolutely filled with gratitude towards my doctor and the others whom we consulted via online consultation. My doctor was available always on the phone, for a call, or on a message and kept guiding us towards proper diet as well as medicines.

He suggested just a couple of medicines and asked about my CT value from the test. The conversation went for half an hour because I had so many questions and in between, I was panting because talking for long took my energy away. “Focus on your health first, your little girl is doing better and would be fine in a couple of days”. As he said, my five-year-old needed just a couple of doses of the medicine the next day and she was fine. She was eating properly and her energy level never dipped.
