Random and Fun facts about books

A perfect weekend can never be perfect without a good book, at least for me. Reading makes me calm and keeps me sane amidst the daily dose of a toddler tantrum, writing assignments, and household chores. Every night, I fall for a vicious circle of just one more chapter then I am off to sleep and regret it the next morning.

J.K. Rowling aptly said that she believes something very magical can happen when you read a good book. Here are some fun and random facts about books. These will certainly take hold of the interest of any book enthusiast around the globe.

  • Most expensive book (Woah!):

The world’s most expensive book ever purchased was bought by Bill Gates for $30.8 million. Leonardo da Vinci’s journal, Codex Leicester, is the world’s most expensive paper document. It was sold for $30.8 million in 1994.

  • Peter Pan (One of my favorite childhood books):

J.M. Barrie gave the rights of Peter Pan to the Children’s Hospital on Great Ormond Street in 1929, London so they could always collect royalties and funds from the hospital.

  • Talk about book reading goals (Let’s move there):

Icelanders are famous for being a nation of bookworms. Iceland is a nation of over 330,000 people. It has more writers, more books read, per head, compared to any nation in the world. Iceland boasts one of the highest rates of books per capita.

  • Harry Potter (Like seriously?)

In some parts of the United States and the United Kingdom, the Potter books have been banned from being read in school. The Harry Potter book series is allegedly the most banned book in America due to religious complaints.

  • Abibliophobia (So there is a word for that)

If you are anything like me then I am sure you might have experienced this feeling at least once in your life for sure. The fear of running out of reading material is called Abibliophobia.

Hope you enjoyed reading these facts and would share them with other book lovers you know. Write your favorite book in the comment section below and I will try to find something unique about it in my next post.

  1. Abibliophobia – I know that feeling very well! I have to have at least 5 unread books at any time, though now with the kindle, it’s more like 500! ? Well, at least I won’t run out of reading material if they suddenly stop printing books, I guess! ?

    1. Goals or dreams should look unachievable that’s when we know we are on the right track and I am sure you will acquire the collection one day. 🙂 Thank you for stopping by 😀

  2. Kudos for such a compilation!! Must have taken a lot of effort to assemble this fun read 🙂

  3. My son suffers from Abibliophobia on a regular basis! He reads so fast. The fact about Peter Pan is also really cool!
